🎾 The Next Evolution of Pickleball in Nanaimo: League Play is Coming

Pickleball has exploded in Nanaimo, with many new and younger players taking up the game. Through my pickleball coaching programmes, I realised that outside of the Nanaimo Pickleball Club, there is no way for players to collect and play together.

Pickleball Evolved was created to improve and increase the number of players in the Nanaimo area.

We believe the next big step in our city’s pickleball journey is structured league play.

In our experience, this is a great way for the growing pickleball community of Nanaimo to interact with each other.

Why League Play?

While drop-in games are perfect for meeting new players and getting reps in, league play offers a different kind of experience. It adds structure, competition, and a clear path to improvement, without losing the fun.

Here’s how league play benefits players of all levels:

Leagues give you scheduled, weekly games with evenly matched opponents. That means:

Want to improve your kitchen game or master your third shots? Competitive, structured play helps players level up faster by putting them in situations where every point matters.

The repetition of weekly games means you’re constantly learning and adjusting.

League play gives you a reason to show up. You’ll be part of a schedule, with rankings or ladders to climb, and match-ups that change weekly to keep things fresh.

We’re Testing the Waters in Nanaimo

We’re designing leagues for multiple skill levels and formats, such as:

• Doubles leagues (fixed partner or rotating)

• Skill-based ladders

• Fun formats with mini-finals or team nights

We will be testing a couple of league formats to see what works best in Nanaimo.
